About Us
The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, originally founded as the Young Men’s Association in 1836, today serves local residents through a network of 37 urban, rural and suburban libraries spread across Erie County in western New York State.
The Library’s Rare Books & Special Collections division stewards a remarkable collection of treasures including the original manuscript of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the gift by its author Mark Twain; rare maps; first editions of American and English literature; the peerless Milestones of Science collection encompassing the first-edition history of discovery by the world’s most influential scientists; a significant anti-slavery collection; sheet music, posters and prints; and local history scrapbooks. These priceless resources are the nucleus of one of America’s oldest libraries and one of the first to have a Rare Book collection. Replicas (prints, posters, etc.) of our treasures now can be shared and enjoyed in your office or home.
All images are produced as quality archival prints using acid-free museum quality paper. Water- and fade-resistant, we ensure that our prints will provide customer satisfaction for generations to come.
