Buffalo Savings Bank, Buffalo, N.Y. [postmarked 1909]
Lithograph postcard view of the Buffalo Savings Bank, which opened in May 1901, just in time for the Pan-American Exposition. The signature dome was covered with terra-cotta tiles overlaid with copper, which gave it a greenish hue. The grand new building would have been an impressive sight for the many visitors to the exposition. The dome has since been gilded three times during restoration, with paper-thin sheets of actual gold leaf, costing more than the original value of the building. The building now houses M&T Bank.
